SupermanTV.net Forum / Superman / Superman Returns Movie / Clark Kent: Most fav. to least

Rank your favorite Clark Kent from most to least.

1.  Tom Welling: Very believable as a teenage Superman.  He makes Clark Kent sympathetic, likeable, and accessible--poignant in a Peter Parker kind of way (sort of).

2.  George Reeves/Dean Cain/John Haymes Newton:  Any of these guys is competent enough and tough enough to work at the Daily Planet or go to college.

Oh, Brandon Routh is okay, too.

Gerard Christopher?  Haven't seen enough to know.  Same for Kirk Alyn.

Least Favorite: Christopher Reeve.  Too clumsy and nerdy.  How can this guy be a reporter?

For that matter, "Superman: The Movie" from 1978 features my least favorite Lois Lane and Lex Luthor.

In order from most favourite to least I would go;
1. Dean's Clark
2. Tom's Clark
3. Brandon's Clark
4. George's Clark
5. Chris', John's, Gerard's Clark written and produced by the same people so they are pretty much indentical in the way they portray him.
The last lot weren't allowed to play the character as anything but a whimp and a nerd which made him seem too vulnerable. I prefer the way Dean and Tom are being allowed to play the character because even without the suit he still has a good, strong, independant personality. Much more of what an investigative reporter should be like.

..i guess christopher reeve's clark kent was clumsy and had a nerdy look because it helped conceal in a better way that he was actually superman, i mean, who would suspect of the nerdy reporter..? but i agree that he should look stronger...anyways:
1. tom welling
2. brandon routh
3. christopher reeve
..haha, i've just seen those guys, too..

christopher reeve is #1. tom welling is#2. brandon routh is #3 (but soon to move up i'm sure) and i don't really bother with the old shows or movies but i will say this... dean cain sucked. well, i guess maybe he wasn't that bad but i just never really liked that show. i lost interest halfway through season 1.

"dean cain sucked" I always find comments like that strange zod99 because if you watch the way the writers and directors of Smallville have Tom playing the part of Clark then I, personally, think that version is, basically, a younger version of the way they had Dean play Clark. He is a strong, independant, young man who has a personality with such a strength of character that it doesn't matter if he has powers or not because he will always feel a need to help people whenever he can.

i guess i just don't like dean cain, the actor. i don't know why. there's probably no good reason. he just doesn't appeal to me. but maybe i'll give the show a chance if i ever see it in reruns.

Dean Cain made a good Superman and better Clark Kent. He was a very likeable guy. The main thing to remember is Lois and Clark focuses on the relationship between Clark and Lois Lane so it therefore is more about Clark Kent the man than Superman. The Smallville (small town) side of his personality shows through in the series.

The best line I think of the series is when he says, "Superman is what I do, Clark is who I am"

I watched the interview with Dean Cain on the second season of L & C and he openly admits to playing superman the same way that Chris did but had to play Clark the way that the writers and directors wanted it done. In the season one interviews he said that he went to Hollywood to be a writer not an actor but I think that he does a fair enough job of acting no worse than Stallone or Van Damme. I think that with the boots he had on he would have been about 6'2.5" as superman and only about 6'1.5" as Clark which made for a good change up, pardon the pun.
