5 Episode Guide
Smallville Fifth Season Official Description & Clips
Where to begin? So much
happened in Smallville Season 5! Obviously the 100th
episode sticks in the mind of every Smallville fan,
especially those who are fans of John Schneider. The 100th
episode shocked us with the death of John Schneider's
character, Jonathan Kent, bringing more tears than the
original death scene played by legendary actor Glenn
Ford. With Smallville, we had a lot longer to get to
know Jonathan Kent, 5 years worth of episodes. Schneider
really knew his character and the dynamics of the Kent home.
Even though there were
probably more tears shed this season than any other, there
were a lot of happy moments as well. John Schneider and fellow
Dukes
of Hazzard star Tom Wopat were reunited. Wopat even came
to town in a classic Dodge Charger. The 5th season also
debuted Aquaman for the first time in a live action show. He
turned out to be a lot cooler than the Super Friends cartoon
version.
The effects were beyond
anything we've ever seen on a television show. Clark was
called upon to stop a runaway missile, defeat evil Kryptonians,
lend Santa Claus a hand during the Christmas episode Lexmas,
defeat Braniac, and just all around do the superhero thing
just a little more extreme than the year before. The Fortress
of Solitude never looked so good. It's amazing that a
television show has actually surpassed the classic Superman
movies from the 70's 80's in terms of effects, but it has.
We got a little more
insight this 5th season into what makes Lex Luthor tick
through the episode Lexmas.
Lex is shot, falling into a coma during the Christmas holiday.
While in the midst of the coma, Lex sees a future filled with
happiness and a marriage to Lana Lang with a baby on the
way. When it all falls apart to tragedy, Lex comes away
harder and meaner than ever, determined to make sure he
controls all possible outcomes in his life. Definitely, one of
the most interesting episodes in the 5th season.
Clark even died this
season, temporarily anyway, but long enough to see the ghost
of his adoptive father, Jonathan Kent, who gave him warning of
Lionel Luthor and encouraged his son with words better than
Uncle Ben's power and responsibility speech to Peter Parker in
Spider-Man.
All year long, during the
5th season we speculated on the appearance of Zod. Finally, in
the final episode of the season Zod takes over Lex Luthor and
all heck breaks lose. The world becomes in turmoil, and Clark
gets zapped into the Phantom Zone.
From start to finish this
season goes faster than a speeding bullet. It will be hard to
top in the 6th season, but maybe if Jonathan Kent can make a
comeback, or if Terence Stamp makes an appearance as Zod? Well
I guess we'll just have to tune in to see if they can top
themselves once again.
5th Season DVD Extras
Just wanted to mention if you missed the Smallville webisodes
on the net, they are a part of the special features. There is
about a half an hour altogether featuring the Angel of
Vengeance originally from the episode Vengeance.
The making of the 100th
episode is very interesting too. We get to see what all goes
into the process of making an episode of Smallville.
Apparently they have a lot of fun. Everyone seemed to enjoy
themselves till it was time for John Schneider's final scenes.
Be warned, by the time you get to John Schneider's farewell,
you might just feel a tear or two coming on.
