In the final 13 episodes of Justice League Unlimited, Grodd recruits Lex
Luthor, Sinestro, Bizarro, Giganta, and hordes of other villains to form
the Legion of Doom, leading to numerous action-packed episodes of
villains fighting the superheroes of the expanded JLU. The core members
of the original series--Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Martian
Manhunter, Hawkgirl, Flash, and Green Lantern--are supplemented by such
heroes as Green Arrow, Black Canary, Supergirl, Red Tornado, and Mister
Terrific. But even waves of super-beings would be a bore if the stories
weren't compelling and well-thought-out, and dashed with humor. It's the
respect for the viewer's intelligence that elevates JLU beyond a kids'
series to arguably the best animated-superhero show ever.
During the season, Hawkgirl meets Katar Hol, Hawkman, who claims that he
and Hawkgirl are the resurrection of centuries-ago lovers, which throws
a wrench into her developing relationship with Green Lantern ("Shadow of
the Hawk," "Ancient History"). Flash fights a rogue's gallery of his
arch enemies alongside Batman and Orion ("Flash and Substance"), Luthor
switches brains with the Flash in "The Great Brain Robbery" (inside
joke: Michael Rosenbaum is the voice of Flash, but plays Lex Luthor in
the series Smallville) , and Luthor's and Grodd's struggle for dominance
of the Legion of Doom comes to a head in the final two-parter, which
leads to an unlikely partnership against the ultimate supervillain. The
series also dips into other characters and realms of DC comic-book lore,
such as the Legion of Super-Heroes ("Far from Home"), Deadman ("Dead
Reckoning"), the Seven Soldiers of Victory ("Patriot Act"), Birds of
Prey ("Grudge Match"), and Mike Grell's Warlord ("Chaos at the Earth's
Core"). In the bonus features, the series creators discuss JLU's ongoing
Cadmus story line, there's a music-only track of the series' final
episode, and the creators do a 30-minute on-screen commentary talking
about three late-season episodes. --David Horiuchi

The Flash becomes victim to an assault by his rogues gallery on the day
Central City honors him with an museum in his honor. Batman and Orion

expect from a Flash episode. This one beats them all.
84. 5-6 Feb 18, 2006 Dead Reckoning
Dead Man guest stars and takes over Superman to get out a call for help.
Gorilla City is attacked by the Legion of Doom, and Gorilla Grodd tries
make monkeys out the Justice League and the entire world. Lex Luthor
isn't impressed.
85. 5-7 Feb 25, 2006 Patriot Act
A American soldier decides he has to take down all super powered beings
by becoming one. He injects a super soldier serum that turns him into a
grey hulk. All the super powered JL members are busy on missions so it's
up to Green Arrow, Vigilante, Speedy, the Shining Knight, and a couple
of others to take him down. Obviously, this episode relies heavily on
Marvel Comics for it's storyline. First the super soldier serum was
taken from Captain America's origin. In this case it was originally a
Nazi super soldier formula. The soldier becomes a grey hulk type
creature much like the Incredible Hulk. These elements just made me
enjoy the episode all the more. Great stuff.
86 5-8 Mar 4, 2006 The Great Brain Robbery
The Flash trades brains with Lex Luthor. Since Smallville's Lex Luthor
Michael Rosenbaum does the voice of the Flash it's more than ironic
isn't it?
87 5-9 Mar 11, 2006 Grudge Match
The ladies of the League are brain washed into fighting each other for
the Metabrawl arena. Can Hawk girl, the Huntress, and the others survive
against Wonder Woman?
88 5-10 Apr 15, 2006 Far from Home
Supergirl, Green Lantern, and Green Arrow get abducted to the 31st
Century by the Legion of Super Heroes. Supergirl decides to stay leaving
her cousin Superman and all her Justice League friends in the 21st
Century. Guest stars include the Legion of Super Heroes featuring
Braniac 5 and Bouncing Boy.
89 "Ancient History" The
Hawkman story concludes here when Shadow Thief captures Green Lantern,
Shayera and Hawkman, then forces them to watch a vision of their past
selves developing an ancient society of Egypt with Thanagarian
technology. It turns out Shadow Thief is a villain from Carter Hall's
mind that was released when he touched the Absorbacron in "Shadow of the
Hawk." Hawkman defeats Shadow Thief and leaves. John Stewart, not
wanting to have destiny play out his life, does not get back with
Shayera, even though the two say they love each other. GL goes back to
Vixen, but not before he tells Shayera about Rex Stewart (Warhawk),
their alleged future son. In the final scene of the episode, Shayera
asks Batman about this future son, but the credits roll before he can
answer.
90 "Alive!" Luthor
and the Secret Society refit their headquarters and fly into deep space
in a last-ditch attempt to reanimate Brainiac. En route, Tala frees
Grodd who leads a mutiny of other disaffected villains against Luthor
and his supporters. Luthor uses his intellect and resourcefulness to
counter his various adversaries' powers; Grodd's mind-control ability is
used against him, forcing him to step into an airlock, from which he is
released into the void. Luthor uses Tala's magic in an attempt to
reconstitute Brainiac, but instead resurrects Darkseid, with Brainiac
enhancements, who makes clear his plans to lay waste to Earth before
dispatching the Secret Society. Darkseid returns to Apokolips just in
time to stop a war between the two factions of his Elite fighting for
power, and reveals to them his plans of massive invasion. The surviving
Secret Society members turn to the Justice League for help.
91 "Destroyer" The Justice
League reluctantly teams up with the Secret Society in anticipation of
an omega-level threat. Darkseid launches a full-scale invasion of Earth
and the combined League and Society battle para-demons across the
planet. Meanwhile, Superman, Batman, and Lex Luthor take on Darkseid
atop the Daily Planet building, until Metron offers Luthor the ultimate
deal with the devil.
